I had the opportunity to contribute in an Environment to a Virtual Production project inspired by a Latin American location, created by the incredible team at Imecalabs in Mexico City.
I was assigned to model the houses for an exterior shot. The team provided an AI-generated concept, but they didn't want an exact copy of it.
I chose modularity over trim sheets.
My priority wasn't pure optimization—it was making sure the Art Director and the team could make real-time changes quickly and easily.
Modularity allowed that.
Using instances with concrete material variations (via Fab) kept changes fast. Doors and windows were baked separately to retain ambient occlusion shadows.
The goal: customizable assets that enable fast iteration without compromising visual quality.
Complementary assets: Added Fab props (pots, flowers) and decals to enrich the scene.
This was a freelance project (outside my full-time job).
We worked remotely using Diversion Desktop, allowing team members to work on independent tasks at any hour. While I modeled the modular kit, others were simultaneously working on set.
